24 Karat is not a store, a marketplace, or a directory. Neighbors start with an idea, find people, figure it out together, and build something that belongs to them.

We started with a bakery. We wanted to build a food business differently — locally, collectively, and with the people around it. Shared ownership. Good food. Neighbors with a say.

The more we thought about it, the bigger the question became. What if people didn’t have to wait for someone else to build what their neighborhood needed?

That’s where 24 Karat came from. Food is the root. Organizing is the idea.

A group might become a buying club, a kitchen, a bakery, a garden, a worker cooperative, a neighborhood service, or something no one has named yet. The people in the room decide. Cooperative documents, including bylaws, live in the resource library as history — not as something to buy, and not as a requirement before you start.
